My great-grandparents immigrated from Italy and Germany. I remember Sunday visits were like stepping into a time warp.

My great-grandmother spoke broken English with a heavy accent. As a child, I would pretend to understand her and smile a lot. 😊

The people in this photograph have long passed or are growing elderly. Yet now, more than ever, I know that their experiences and beliefs impact my daily life. They are why I am frugal, mostly cook meals instead of eating out, and don’t hire someone to do something I can do myself…even if I don’t want to or have the time (By the way – I am actively progressing on this front!)πŸ₯³

A friend of mine is responsible for capital investments for a Native American Tribal group. She recently shared that one of the considerations in all her work is the seven-generation principle. ☺️

“The Seventh Generation Principle is based on an ancient Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) philosophy that the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world seven generations into the future.” (https://www.ictinc.ca/blog/seventh-generation-principle)

I saw this principle demonstrated in multi-cultural mental health training. Seven people formed a line and placed their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them. Then the person at the back of the line began to move from side to side.

You can imagine what happened. The next person in line was dramatically shifted side to side, with the movement of each individual lessening the farther up the line they were. This was a physical and visual demonstration of the seven-generation principle.
I often think of this demonstration in my counseling and coaching work and the impact our ancestors have on our lives, both positive and negative. And the effect our actions and beliefs have on future generations. ❀️

As you take some time to go inward this winter, consider the effects of your family legacy on your beliefs. πŸ’›

What unconsciously absorbed ideas are affecting your life? Awareness brings consciousness.

You can still choose the same behavior or thought. My goal for you is the same as I have for myself, to be intentional, to release that which does not serve your highest good, live in alignment, and take inspired action.

Sending you many blessings.❀️
